Building Public Trust in Policing outlines a five-point program for making rapid, visible progress toward strong, effective community partnerships; safer neighborhoods; and policing based on respect for civil and human rights.
Guarding Against Extremism in Law Enforcement: A Wellness-Based Approach provides a set of pragmatic recommendations for addressing the risk of law enforcement radicalization. The guide details a wellness-based, root cause approach for police agencies and communities – upstream of the point where negative behavior may warrant a disciplinary response or call into question an individual’s fitness to serve as a law enforcement officer.
Content Neutral Policing of Demonstrations examines the foundational question of content neutrality in the response of law enforcement agencies to protests and demonstrations. It explores the roles of police, community organizers, and policymakers across all levels of government in balancing the interests that demonstration management implicate. Finally, it provides a set of practical recommendations on policy, training, engagement before and during events, tactical response, and officer wellness initiatives can support fair, effective, and just law enforcement responses to demonstrations.
National Perspective: Operationalizing Community Policing Within the Chicago Police Department: A Summary of Current and Promising National Practices: In order to advance community policing operationally, 21CP Solutions examined community policing leading practices across 17 metro police departments through interviews with sworn senior command staff and community policing personnel. Officers in peer cities like Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Philadelphia, and Seattle shared detailed feedback on effective public safety methods enabled by incorporating community policing as a foundational departmental philosophy. This included implementing community event requirements across all ranks and providing granular training on how to connect crime victims to resources during and after calls for service.
