On any given night, 2 million people stay in homes on Airbnb in 100,000 cities across the world. In the wake of a number of high-profile incidents implicating safety issues, the company turned to 21CP to assist it in the creation of new protocols and initiatives relating to safety.
21CP has worked with the company to establish and invest in a number of specific initiatives for customers and communities, including:
Listing Verification. Airbnb is working to review 100% of all of our listings and hosts by the end of 2020 – confirming the accuracy of properties and the identities of hosts.
High-Risk Reservation Review. Airbnb has established a data-driven system for flagging potentially problematic reservations associated with large, unauthorized gatherings – like the duration of the stay and the size of the property. Risk scoring flags reservations for manual review so that issues can be stopped before they get off the ground.
Party Ban. 21CP worked with Airbnb on developing and rolling out a comprehensive policy that bans “open-invite” parties and events at Airbnb properties and strengthens ways to address other gatherings convened without the owner’s permission. While hosts may still authorize some gatherings (like family barbeques or dinner parties) at their properties, our policy is aimed at preventing the situations that can lead to public safety challenges.
Noise Detection. Airbnb has promoted the purchase of noise detectors to Airbnb hosts as a way of addressing potential unauthorized parties and noise issues.
Identity Verification. Airbnb is continuing to invest in enhanced methods of verifying user identities – running them against regulatory and terrorist watchlists and, conducting background checks.
